I make sure I don't overcrowd my bag and bring too much along because if I'm in a rush it would be too frustrating sifting through hundreds of products. I condensed my bag down to the essentials.
I keep all my essentials in this awesome Yves Saint Laurent bag I got when I purchased some things (from Myer) during Christmas-what an awesome gift!
So, here are the things I bring every where with me:
NARS 'Pro Prime Multi-Protect Primer' SPF 30 Available from Mecca Maxima/Mecca Cosmetica |
MAC cosmetics 'Pro Correct and Conceal' concealer palette $65 Available from MAC stands in Myer |
This concealer palette is all the concealer you'll ever need-there are yellows, pinks, browns and salmon colour concealers (I will make a post on colour correcting concealers in the near future). These concealers don't oxidize, have a lovely creamy consistency, and can be built up to conceal blemishes, acne scars and dark circles. I love to use this when I'm running late or on the go because you have everything you need for your base in here. I use the medium light palette and have made use of all the colours. I use the pink colour to conceal under my eyes, the yellow to correct any discolouration, and the darkest brown shade to contour my nose. There are some nude concealers that are awesome at covering my pimples. I think if you want concealers from MAC but you don't know which one to choose, purchase this! Considering that ONE single concealer is roughly 30 dollars (from Australia), you are getting a bargain by spending $65 on SIX different concealers. Everything you need to conceal dark circles, discolouration, redness, blemishes/acne is in one palette. It's also quite compact and very light-perfect for on the go. The only thing I wish it had was a mirror!
Hourglass Cosmetics AMBIENT LIGHTING BLUSH $50 from Mecca Cosmetica/Mecca Maxima |
Oh Hourglass cosmetics...you are fantastic...and so god damn expensive. This blush cost me fifty dollars. FIFTY! For a blush, But I don't regret it at all. I want to collect every single blush from Hourglass because this decadent baby has done wonders to my complexion. I don't need to highlight when I wear this because it creates a beautiful, flawless glow to the face as well as a lovely flush of colour that compliments your make-up PERFECTLY. It is very finely milled and is like a blush + highlight in one. VERY natural, finishes off all make-up looks wonderfully. I just wish the packaging wasn't so bulky. Other than that, the formula is just amazing.
NARS Light Reflecting Translucent Powder Available from Mecca Maxima or Mecca Cosmetica |
I have hit pan on this wonderful translucent powder. It is by far the greatest powder I have ever used on my face. When applied over your foundation, it makes your skin feel like a baby's butt. Seriously. What on Earth is in this thing? My skin feels like silk after wearing this. It's amazing. I use this throughout the day if I feel like my skin is getting oily or if I need to touch up my face. The NARS Light Reflecting powder...reflects light. So if you are going to an event with flash photography...don't wear this. It is a lovely setting powder to use over your foundation if you don't want any more coverage. Not cakey at all! When I first used this, I felt like my brush wasn't picking up anything so I tried it with about five different powder brushes-but the product wasn't transferring onto my brushes. After a few minutes of swiping the brush over this, I realised there was some sort of weird layer over the top that I had to get rid of...I don't even know. Other than that, it's awesome if you're going to be spending all day out and need to touch up your face without spending too much time making sure your face isn't going to cake up.
NARS Eyebrow gel in 'Oural' |
Eyebrow gel. Need I say more? If your eyebrows are bipolar, buy this. BUY IT. I got the clear one because my eyebrows are naturally very dark, so all it does is keep my hairs in place.
Yves Saint Laurent 'Touche Eclat' and Volumizing mascara |
Mascara. A staple in any make-up bag! The wand is lovely and small so it's awesome for when I'm in a rush. My other mascaras with the big wands tend to smudge onto my eyelids because my eyes are very small...Also this mascara smells awesome.
The touche eclat...you've seen everyone rave about this. Don't believe all the hype out there-it isn't some wand that will transform your face to some glowing goddess like in the YSL advertisements with Cara Delevingne. HOWEVER, if you didn't sleep last night, this will do the trick. Lovely formula, no orange tinge to it at all. To apply, you click on the button on the bottom and swipe it on, then blend. On days where I don't want to wear anything on my face, I wear this with some translucent powder to set it, and then some bronzer. That's all. It's lovely, but overpriced. Essence cosmetics has a product similar to the Touche Eclat for only $3.50 (from priceline). Swatches of them will go up soon...I think.
Left: NARS lipstick in 'Heat Wave' Right: MAC lipstick in 'Taupe' |
I always carry two lipsticks in my bag. One bright, one nude. The NARS lipstick in 'Heat Wave' is similar to MAC'S Lady Danger. Saw someone cute? Put this on and it'll make you look amazing. The formula is wonderful because it is semi-matte. So if your lips tend to dry out easily but you want a bold colour, this is a beautiful colour. The colour is great for spring/summer paired with blue eyeliner and some lashes! The MAC lipstick in Taupe is a great 'nude' for people with darker skin. It has a brown undertone and well...the name of the lipstick is literally what the colour is. Taupe! Mauve/pink brown. So in fashion right now!
Three brushes exist in my make-up bag:
1. Real Techniques 'Deluxe crease brush'- I use this for my concealers. AMAZING.
2. Sigma Large Angled Contour brush (F40)- The best brush I've ever used. I apply my blush with this.
3. Bobbi Brown medium powder brush-awesome for any powders: bronzers, foundation powder, blush, highlighters.
DUO eyelash glue Ardell tweezers The Body Shop eyelash curler |
These tools I take along with me and that are absolute ESSENTIALS, and quite self explanatory. Eyelash glue, in case you have a false lash emergency. If you EVER wear falsies out to an event, don't ever ever EVER leave the glue at home. I use the DUO eyelash glue and it is non-latex (due to my allergies) and has vitamins in it, which is awesome since my eyelashes are short, brittle and fall off easily, and in the past the glues I've used were far too harsh. I accidentally used a glue with latex in it once. Worst mistake ever. On a side note, if you are a freelance makeup artist, make sure you carry latex AND non-latex glue with you. You never know who has an allergy to latex!
Tweezers. In case you find a stray hair near your eyebrows. Gotta keep them looking fresh and clean ...(unless you don't like that then do whatever floats your boat_.To ALL make-up beginners, invest in an eye lash curler. Don't buy the two dollar plastic ones. INVEST. You need an eye lash curler. YOU NEED ONE. If you love make-up and you don't own an eyelash curler, buy one. NOW. Get off the computer and buy one. You're doing life wrong-especially if you have short eyelashes that grow DOWN. It instantly perks up your eyes when you curl your lashes.
Aaaand that's all I put in my make-up bag. I never bring my foundation, bronzer, eyebrow pencil/shadow or highlighter because if it's a good product, I expect it to stay on all day. Other than that, the products I carry along with me help touch up my face on the go. I hope this gave you a rough idea of make-up bag essentials.
Thank you for reading
Sylvia
